The Patriot (2000) Movie Review
The acting is great, the cinematography is beautiful, the fight sequences are quite spectacular and despite it's rather long running time, it still manages to be entertaining all the way through. Heroism, courage, and sacrifice by all the colonists who fought for their independence from the British. Okay, there are atrocities in war but everything has limits, and the British still had, at this time, a mentality very much for the gentlemen's war, at least the officers. People all over wanted to help in the war effort by joining the army and forming small militia groups to fight the British. Gabriel openly courts Anne Howard with her father's permission. Not to mention influences the final surrender of the British.
He is promoted to colonel in the continental army and leads his eldest son to find recruits to stall General Cornwallis until the French arrive. Several great love relationships ran throughout the plot. Actually, even putting this on a historical fiction bookshelf is a bit of a misnomer. This film not only utilizes slo-mo but super slow-mo in which the action is further slowed so you can really really see the blood spatter as the guy gets chopped with a sword or struck by a musket ball or whatever.
